Art meets classical musical magic at the Abu Dhabi Classics Trombone Trio of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Al Ain’s historic Bin Hamoodah Fort last night successfully hosted three members of the trombone section of the Amsterdam-based Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Performing in the emirate for the first time, the artists accomplished musical excellence in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Saeed Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan alongside other dignitaries, who collectively witnessed an epic showcase of musical mastery that brought to the monument throngs of classical purists and families keen on enjoying an inspired evening of symphonic entertainment.

In a debut performance titled When Art Meets Music, brothers Nico Schippers and Martin Schippers teamed up with Bart Claessens as part of the Trombone Trio, and were accompanied by melodic colleague and accomplished pianist Jeroen Bal. The party set the outdoor stage alight with romantic yet dramatic musical arrangements, offering renditions of compositions by Modest Mussorgsky, Anton Bruckner’s famous 1847 piece Zwei Aequali, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms and Louis Couperin’s Three Dance Pieces. Audiences were also captivated by an inspired interpretation of 19th Century Hungarian composer Franz Liszt’s Ave Maria, as well as Hungarian Rhapsody no. 11, Nicola Ferro’s A friend for a friend, and Ilya Reijngoud’s Ballade.

Brought to the emirate under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates and organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Classics programme will host enchanting live performances that feature contemporary classical musicians as part of its new season.
