The Creativity Corner cultivates a culture of reading, creative exploration and inspired learning in children at the 27th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

The Creativity Corner at this year’s edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair has set the stage for inspired learning, creative exploration and a culture of reading in children, showcasing a variety of fun-filled activities and workshops that will engage the minds of the fair’s youngest visitors.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, ADIBF is organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), and runs until 2 May 2017 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

Contributing to the diverse programming offered at the Creativity Corner is a line-up of published authors, artists, inspirational speakers and performers from across the Arab world. Writer Rania Zaghir, leadership development specialist Mohammad Abdul Halim, international coach and member of the International Coach Federation Marwa Karoura, Lebanese storyteller and librarian Naseem ‘Alwan, and children’s author, filmmaker and entrepreneur Khadijah Kudsi offer captivating workshops tailor-made for children on reading and development.

Co-founders of Collective Kahraba Eric Deniaud and Aurelien Zouki combine live sculpting, drawing and poetry in a pocket theatre performance while author Omar Khawaja and the fair’s youngest publisher, Anaahita, round up the personalities delivering the exciting roster of activities.

Divided into several distinctive sections and supported by a number of key public and private educational institutions including the Sheikh Mohammad Bin Khalid Al Nahyan Association for Future Generations, Tadweer, Takamul Academy, KTalk Coaching & Consulting and Jumping Clay, the Creativity Corner carries a spectrum of educational activities designed to foster a love for imaginative learning, introspection and creative expression for children visiting the fair’s 27th edition.

The Positivity and Happiness Section offers a variety of leadership and development sessions and performance improvement workshops for children and adults, which highlight such topics as the importance of cultivating optimism, diligence in pursuing the accomplishment of dreams, self-awareness and the relationship between creativity and innovation.

The Excellence and Creativity Section introduces a series of educational and entertaining programmes designed to help develop children’s personalities and interactive skills. Exploring science and robotics, fine and performing arts, character building and mental development, this section challenges young participants to understand innovation and its impact on the world around them.

A favourite in previous editions of ADIBF, the Reading Section comes equipped with more workshops inspiring a passion for reading and literacy in children. Some workshops to look forward to include an independent reading programme titled Sheikh Zayed: A Trilogy, which presents a collection of children’s books about the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, Help Me Read, a reading programme inspired by the Year of Giving and launched by Future Generations Library as part of the El Kheir (charity) initiative, as well as The Fragrance of our Heritage, a workshop that seeks to connect children with the traditional ritual of Arabic coffee making.

The Pocket Theatre section will showcase presentations by artists from Collective Kahrab, a Lebanese performance arts company which fuses poetry, drawing and clay sculpture moulding to tell stories inspired by ancient tales.

Children can also partake in various forms of artistic expression using colouring pencils, clay, crafts and recycled materials in a range of workshops for children in the Arts Section, programming of which is designed to inspire creative discovery and expression in the fair’s youngsters.

The Storytellers or El Hawakati programme will provide children an opportunity to engage with, and journey through the ancient art of storytelling and narration, as they tune in to classic fables and tales that have resonated with the Arab people for generations; while the Madness of Letters workshop teaches children the artistic practice of calligraphy, writing words in Chinese and Arabic letters to be published in a book also titled Madness of Letters.

Creativity Corner workshops will be held during two shifts on each day of ADIBF 2017: one in the morning from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm, and another in the evening from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

The region’s fastest-growing book fair, ADIBF 2017 has gained acclaim for bringing together leading international authors, publishers, artists and exhibitors from across the world in a vibrant celebration of the region’s literary landscape. This year, the fair will offer visitors more than 800 activities to engage in across the exhibition’s floor.
