The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi Hosts Tourism Delegation from GCC Region

As part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi’s (DCT Abu Dhabi) mandate to promote Abu Dhabi as a world-class destination of distinction, the department organised a visit to the emirate for travel trade operators from across the GCC this weekend in cooperation with Etihad Airways and Yas Island, welcoming representatives from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait, to highlight key tourism offerings in the emirate.

Travel trade experts were treated to a tour of Abu Dhabi’s most prominent cultural and touristic sites as part of their trip, including Yas Island, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Al Forsan Club. The delegation also visited Al Ain, where they explored Al Ain Zoo, Telal Resort and Al Ain Oasis.

The delegates were welcomed to Yas Island on Friday 26th October by Anthony Earl Rippingale, Acting Director of Travel Trade and Market Development Department, who gave an overview of the market:

“The GCC contains some of our most important source markets for guests and has recorded significant increases over the past few years.

Rippingale added: “The first eight months of 2018 has reinforced this upward trend, with a 5.8% rise in guest numbers to Abu Dhabi, which translates as more than 3.31 million guests. These metrics underline our appeal as a world-class destination with a rich diversity of cultural and family-focused attractions. Looking ahead, we look forward to working with these delegates to entice more travellers from the GCC to consider Abu Dhabi as a potential destination.”
