LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first angioplasty in men

Dr. Georges Ghanem the Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Cardiology at LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital retraces the history and the advancement of angioplasty since 40 years.

 

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first angioplasty in men done on September 16 1977 by Andreas Gruntzig, a landmark date in the history of percutaneous intervention in cardio-vascular medicine, a conference took place at LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital.

Grouping the physicians, the residents of LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital and the students of the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine, Dr. Ghanem gave a presentation and a retrospective view of the history of interventional cardiology that revolutionized this field and set new heights on better life for cardiovascular patients since then. He also cited the advancements in the detection and treatment of cases as well as a glimpse on the future of cardiovascular interventions.

 

The subjects tackled the various treatments’ milestones, changes in interventions, improved protocols, and pharmacological improvements in medications namely Dual Anti-Platelet Therapy.

 

The conference enjoyed a high degree of interest among the attendants and shed an intelligent light on this medical breakthrough which saved the lives of thousands of patients since then and giving them a better outlook for their health.
