The Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon inaugurates its 25th annual congress “The Seven-Star Pharmacist: Shaping the Future of Pharmacy in Lebanon”

Under the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Lebanese Republic General Michel Aoun, the Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon inaugurated its 25th annual congress, held under the theme “The Seven-Star Pharmacist: Shaping the Future of Pharmacy in Lebanon”, on November 17, 2017 at Hilton Beirut Habtoor Hotel, in the presence of the representative of HE General Michel Aoun, the Minister of State for the Fight against Corruption H.E. Mr. Nicolas Tueini, the President of the Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon Dr. Georges Sili, the representative of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health His Excellency Mr. Ghassan Hasbani, Dr. Diana Charbel, the President of the Parliamentary Commission of Health Dr. Atef Majdalani, the Director of Finance at European Association of Hospital Pharmacists Dr. Andras Sule, the Board Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in the United Kingdom Dr. Mahendra Patel and the President of the Syndicate of Pharmaceutical Industries in Lebanon Dr. Carol Abi Karam.

President Sili welcomed the attendees hoping that this congress will be an opportunity to leverage and enhance the pharmacy profession and the message it conveys. Inaugurating the congress, Sili said that the Pharmacists in Lebanon haven’t got the chance yet to benefit from the handbook published by the World Health Organization and the International Pharmaceutical Federation under the theme “Developing pharmacy practice – A focus on patient care”, aiming at promoting pharmaceutical care. However, the current Board is keen on applying the “seven-star pharmacist” concept developed in this handbook, i.e. caregiver, decision-maker, communicator, manager, researcher, lifelong learner, teacher and leader, through projects in progress.

Dr. Sili concluded his speech by saying, “the core action of the Order is to have clear and visionary programs to make pharmacists honored to belong to the Order and proud of the role and the mission of their career. We will continue to work respecting values, laws and regulations to uphold the pharmacists’ trust which has one title: an active Order at the service of all.”

Concluding the ceremony, awards were distributed and the Patient Profile Memorandum of Understanding was announced and agreed to be signed during a launching ceremony to be held at the Ministry of Public Health premises, while the agreement between the Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society – UK was signed before inaugurating the exhibition accompanying the congress.
