The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways Host UK Travel Trade Agents in Emirate

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), along with the UAE’s national carrier Etihad Airways, brought 38 agents from the UK’s travel trade on a culture-filled, four-night ‘mega-familiarisation’ trip to Abu Dhabi last month.

Marking the fourth year of DCT Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways hosting this ‘Mega Fam’ trip together, the 38 agents flew from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin and spent two nights on the Corniche and two on Yas Island. In each location the agents stayed in a variety of luxury hotels, including the Grand Hyatt, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, Bab Al Qasr, and St. Regis Abu Dhabi on the Corniche, and Yas Hotel, Yas Rotana, Centro Yas Island, Crowne Plaza, Radisson Blu, and Park Inn on Yas Island.

The group featured representatives from Hayes & Jarvis, Flightcentre, Travelbag/Netflights, Hays Travel, Barrhead, Wexas Travel and ITC, amongst others.

Detlef Haner, Regional Promotion Europe & Americas Section Manager, Promotion & Overseas Offices Department for DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “We are now in our fourth year of hosting our Mega Fam from the UK & Ireland in conjunction with Etihad Airways.  Its popularity with front-line sellers from our key tour operators and agents goes from strength to strength, which is testament to the many exciting developments in hotels, family entertainment and culture in Abu Dhabi.”

During the trip the agents were treated to the most extraordinary tours and experiences Abu Dhabi has to offer, including a visit to the famous Emirates Palace as well as tours of Louvre Abu Dhabi and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. The group also enjoyed some activities more in keeping with Abu Dhabi’s desert heritage, such as camel riding and dune bashing.

James Harrison, Etihad Airways General Manager in the UK & Ireland said: “We are very glad to have run another Mega Fam trip with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism. These trips always give agents a fantastic taster of the beauty and excitement Abu Dhabi has to offer and we hope the enjoyment had on this trip helps agents encourage more people to fly with us to our hub.”
